lighting sets the mood in a photography

Wed 12 Apr 2017

I love lighting. Apparently that is what all photographers say but I really do. I am invested in the emotional aspect of lighting and the way it can influence us what we think and feel. The cinema makes great use of it and guides us sutlely on how to perceive a character and scene from the gritty cyan shaddows to emotional back lit scenes. Excellent and effective lighting is sutle, it doesn't take over but enhances the message and overall raises the production values.

The Pradal Serey tournament gave me one of those unique insides into Khmer culture. The mix of ritual, showman ship and fierce fighting was arresting.

Portrait Award Finalist

Tue 7 Mar 2017

Preparation for the portrait award are now well on the way. With the exhibition opening taking place on the 31rst March the last couple of weeks have been a flurry of activity and my framed piece was taken up & delivered to the National Portrait Gallery Canberra last week. If you find yourself in Canberra do drop by  - it does tend to be a great survey of what portrait photography is about. The exhibition is open to the public from 1rst April - 18th June before moving onto the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre (1rst July- 23rd August) and the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery (29th September - 26th November). For all of you people far far away I believe a virtual really tour will be on offer at some stage.
